A new look seems to have caught on in Manhattan over the weekend… suspenders!  Suspenders worn with jeans and t-shirts, slacks and button up shirts… and I’m pretty sure I saw a baby wearing them attached to his diaper.  I never thought I would say this but it seemed no one could go wrong wearing the city’s newest favorite accessory… Mork would be so proud.

Naturally, I felt obligated to be part of the start up phase of this trend so I spent Sunday afternoon searching for the best suspenders in the city.  About an hour into it I spotted the ultimate “suspenders look” at Club Monaco.  While I was experimenting with the look I was greeted by a fresh faced young salesman who was eager to educate me on the store’s big push to sell suspenders – you can get suspender buttons sewn into any pair of pants purchased there for free.  I, of course, bought a pair of pants and had the store manager send them off to their tailor.  I won’t get them back until Wednesday, so in the mean time I’ll have to make due with the Marc Jacobs snap on suspenders that I purchased that day while in “must wear suspenders now” emergency mode.  I’ve also sent several of my jeans to my local tailor to have suspender buttons sewn in.

My advice to you… start collecting suspenders!  This fall I predict that they’ll be holding up pants and diapers everywhere.

All last week DANNIJO’s Rock ‘N’ Chains collection has been prominently featured in the Atrium of Henri Bendel as part of the store’s fall Chain event. The look - layered chains, mixed metals and flashes of electric color.  These are pieces that make a statement, so much so you’ll find that you’ll WANT to dress around the jewelry. Take a look!

In a sea of Ray-Bans, varying degrees of gladiator sandals, tight jeans and boys in straw hats, music loving hipsters joined together at historic Liberty State Park for the three-day ALL POINTS WEST music festival last weekend.  Over 70,000 fans came out to watch, listen and dance to the music of over 40 bands.  jack + bill’s favorites included Kings of Leon, Metric, Andrew Bird, Alberta Cross, Sia and of course, Radiohead!  Where there is music, there is fashion, and the cool kids attending ALL POINTS WEST did not disappoint. Style.com never fails to capture the most cutting edge duds at music festivals across the globe.  Here they evaluate fashion at ALL POINTS WEST, appropriately coined “hipsterpalooza”: http://www.style.com/trends/stylenotes/081208

ShootBooth is satisfying millenials’ never-ending itch for new Facebook photos by renting out cool photobooths for parties in New York.  You can rent the 8-foot tall vintage replica camera (actually hiding a digital SLR camera inside) for your next party and get printed shots or burned disks at the end of the night. So cool. Our long-lost now-found high school friends are going to be so jealous.

I’m a sucker for style collaborations - best trend ever. Rogan + Target, yes please.  Japanese sneaker collabs, be still my heart.  But you’ve got to give it up to Swedish designer Olle Hemmendorff and Nike for taking it to the next level by combining two of my favorite things; shoes and snacks.  Thanks to our friends at Freshness mag, you can read all about how Nike commissioned a team of artists to pick the iconic sneaker of their choice and interpret it in their own style.  Hemmendorff brought my worlds together and created a Nike Air Max 90 out of HAMBURGER. As he said:

“In the tradition of material innovation of AM 90, I constructed a running shoe using the most powerful, must durable and most delicious material known to man: hamburger.”

If you’re lucky enough to live in Sweden, check it out for me.  Anyone know of any other snack + style collaborations?

It’s a wedgie for you if you’re not dressed hip enough at the monkey bars. Children are the new brand whores and are bullying classmates that can’t afford the latest labels.

The Guardian reports that a recent poll found 85% of teachers believe possession of fashionable goods is important to their pupils, with 93% saying brands are the top influence on what children buy.

Back in my day, my biggest problem was matching my scrunchy with my socks!

Last night I boarded a boat full of all types of “greenies” from climate scientists to architects for Green Drinks NYC, an organization dedicated to raising awareness of green issues and providing a forum to meet other like-minded individuals from NGOs, academia and business.

I had the opportunity to talk with Starre Vartan, Founder & Editor of Eco-Chick, an environmental blog she started in October of 2005.  Since then, she’s been busy with media appearances from Fox TV to the Today Show, and will release her new book this month, The Eco Chick: How to Be Fabulously Green Guide to Life.

I personally admire Starre’s passion in creating a forum for women to come together and talk about issues affecting the planet, and am of course drawn to her posts on topics like eco-friendly fashion, such as her eco style previews.  Check them out at: http://eco-chick.com.

Eco-friendly fashion isn’t just for the emerging designers and boutiques any more, however.  Mainstream fashion designers such as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Stella McCartney have joined in by creating looks for Fashion Week in partnership with FutureFashion and Earth Pledge. Spring ‘09 upcoming collections for New York Fashion Week are sure to follow this trend including bamboo, silk and hemp.

The countdown is on for New York Fashion Week and who else but sexy revivalist Justin Timberlake to rock the runway! JT will rock out at the Fashion Rocks concert on September 5th AND plans to serenade William Rast models down the catwalk on September 7th.

These back-to-back shows bring new meaning to haute fashion!

Planning any shopping trips along Fifth Avenue this week? If so, stop by Henri Bendel (712 Fifth Ave.) and meet Danielle and Jodie Snyder of DANNIJO as they personally present their Rock N’ Chains collection.

The girls will be at Bendel’s starting at 10 a.m. - 7  p.m. on Tuesday, August 12 -  Friday, August 15th and again on Monday, August 19th.

Stop by and say hello!
